Dear Fellow Supporters of the Constitution,
As we gather our thoughts on this meaningful day, September 17, 2025—US Constitution Day and Citizenship Day—I am reminded of the profound principles that bind us as Americans. The Constitution, signed on this date in 1787, stands as a beacon of liberty, justice, and the rule of law, reminding us of our shared commitment to protecting individual rights and fostering a more perfect union. On Citizenship Day, we celebrate the responsibilities and privileges of being active participants in this great experiment of self-governance. Let us reflect on how we can uphold these ideals in our daily lives, honoring the sacrifices of those who came before us.
In the spirit of remembrance, I also want to pause and honor two remarkable souls whose lives and legacies resonate deeply with these themes of freedom and resilience.
First, Charlie Kirk, the visionary founder of Turning Point USA, who was tragically assassinated just one week ago on September 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University. Charlie was a tireless advocate for conservative values, empowering young people to engage in the political process and defend the Constitution's enduring principles. His passion for truth and liberty inspired millions, and his untimely death at the age of 31 serves as a stark reminder of the costs of standing for what we believe in. As his memorial approaches on September 21 at State Farm Stadium in Arizona, let us carry forward his mission of fostering informed citizenship and unapologetic patriotism.
Equally, we remember Iryna Zarutska, the 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee whose life was cut short on August 22, 2025, in a senseless stabbing on a Charlotte, North Carolina, light rail train. Iryna fled the horrors of the Russian invasion of her homeland, seeking safety and opportunity in America—a true embodiment of the immigrant spirit that has strengthened our nation since its founding. Despite the challenges of starting anew, she pursued education, learned English, and worked diligently at a local pizzeria, building a bright future for herself and her family. Her story highlights the promise of citizenship and the refuge our Constitution provides to those escaping tyranny. Though her loss is heartbreaking, her courage inspires us to support refugees and ensure that America remains a land of hope for all who seek it.
In remembering Charlie and Iryna, we must also reaffirm our commitment to peace and the non-violent pursuit of change. We do not condone violence in any form—it has no place in our discourse or our society, and it only undermines the very freedoms we cherish. Let us channel our energies into dialogue, advocacy, and civic engagement, honoring these lives by building a safer, more just world.
Thank you for being part of this journey with me. Together, let's make today a day of reflection, action, and renewed dedication to the Constitution and our shared citizenship.
With gratitude and resolve,
Mark Crowe
