This is a story of perseverance.
When my daughter was just a baby, I was lucky enough to work for an employer that offered amazing paid family leave.
It became abundantly clear to me that parents and their babies deserve to spend those early months together and should be able to without worrying about paying the bills.
Inspired, I decided to take on the fight to pass paid family leave for Minnesota.
Year after year, our coalition pushed forward, often carrying my daughter with me to meetings and rallies, showing everyone that this wasn’t just a policy issue — this was personal.
There were times I looked at my daughter playing on the floor of my office as we strategized new ways to push the conversation, and wondered how many more children would have to grow up without their parents having the support they need.
My daughter was in fourth grade when we got paid family leave passed. The fight took time and energy and persistence, but I never gave up — because I knew it was worth it.
I stood shoulder to shoulder with advocates and friends who had been fighting for nearly a decade.
We knew we had secured a future where families wouldn’t have to choose between economic security and caring for their loved ones was one of the proudest moments of my life.
Now, it’s time to bring that fight to the U.S. Senate. Paid family leave shouldn’t be a luxury — it should be the floor.
