Axios: “Belief in the American dream hits record low”

A new poll shows that 70% of Americans no longer believe that the American Dream holds true—a 15 year record high.

John, I grew up here in Western PA, where a lot of our communities have seen firsthand the frustration and heartbreak when hard work doesn’t pay off.

For decades, too many in Western PA and across the country have had the American Dream ripped away by powerful corporations and their weak politicians who help them rig the system. I’ve seen huge corporations ship jobs overseas and crush workers and small businesses, cheered on by those same bought-and-paid-for politicians. That’s not the America I believe in.

I believe in an America where if you work hard, you can build a good life for your family. Where dignity, a fair fight, and opportunity aren’t just slogans—they’re real. That’s the dream I grew up with, and it’s the dream I’m fighting every day in Congress to restore.

I’m doing everything I can to stand up for the hardworking people who make this country run. I’m fighting for the American Dream—fighting for an economy and a government that works for the people. I believe that if you work hard and play by the rules, the American Dream is yours.

But the thing is, folks are working hard—yet the cost of living is out of control. So many families can’t afford childcare, to travel to visit loved ones, to go to a game (or even watch the NFL!), or to put food on the table.

Meanwhile, Trump and Republicans in Washington are doing nothing to bring down costs. Instead, they’re jamming through a weak agenda that strips millions of hardworking people of their healthcare—while giving a massive tax handout to billionaires and huge corporations.

I’m sick and tired of having the American Dream stolen from us by corporate bosses and their bought-off politicians.

That’s why I’m fighting like hell to give Western Pennsylvanians and hardworking folks across the country a fair shot at the American Dream. We have got to bring down costs, create more solid jobs, and give small businesses a shot to succeed.
