** General Meeting this Sunday!
------------------------------------------------------------

Come to our General Meeting on Sunday, Sep. 21 at 2 PM at 683 Florida St. RSVP on Eventbrite ([link removed]) . We’ll be talking about No Kings 2, local ways to fight encroaching authoritarianism, Prop 50, and more.

** Bay Get Ready: Noncooperation Training
------------------------------------------------------------

Indivisible SF has been working with the many organizations that make up the Bay Resistance network to strategize about how to defeat the growing threat of authoritarianism and the attacks on our communities. We are learning lessons from the history of liberation movements that have defeated authoritarian takeovers across the world. We all need to get trained up on noncooperation and develop movement strategy together.

We are also preparing for the threat of federal invasion to sanctuary cities in the Bay Area by scenario planning and organizing our neighborhoods to be ready. We know it is up to us to protect one another.

We are inviting people across the Bay to come together on Sunday October 5th for a mass meeting and training.
* Develop noncooperation civil resistance strategies
* Build on-the-ground skills for neighborhood solidarity
* Know your rights and ways to stay safe during military deployment
* Organize a mass movement against authoritarianism

Register in advance ([link removed]) to save your spot and indicate if you need child care, interpretation, or support to access the space in any other way.

Indivisible SF is providing Event Monitors for this event. If you’d like to help, please fill out this google form ([link removed]) . It will be sent to our lead coordinator with Bay Resistance.

** Thank you for attending Civicstravaganza
------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you so much to those of you who came to Civicstravaganza! It was a small but mighty event. This civics fair brought our group together with activists from around the city and taught us a lot. We held a talking circle, made art and buttons, and raised awareness of important groups like the Federal Unionists Network, the League of Women Voters, the fREADom Writers, and more. We plan to do many more and hope to see you there.

In the meantime, check out the photos Terry Scussel and Dan Ryan from Pro Bono Photo on their website. ([link removed])

And read about our event on our blog. ([link removed])

** No Kings 2 in 1 Month… we need YOU to clear your calendar
------------------------------------------------------------

No Kings 2 is on Saturday, October 18th, and we’re already knee deep in organizing. We will need a lot of volunteers for this one. If you are interested in helping us keep this event safe, please clear your calendar for October 18. We’ll start sending out our volunteer forms by next week.

If you don’t want to wait, and are ready to be an Event Monitor, respond to this email and we’ll add you to our No Kings 2 volunteer group.

Get more details on our website at [link removed]. And start spreading the word: on Saturday, October 18, we say NO KINGS!

** Volunteer Request: We’re looking for people from District 10 to join our Local and State team
------------------------------------------------------------

Do you live in Potrero Hill, Hunter’s Point, Visitacion Valley, or the Bayview District? If so, our state and local team needs you! We need more active members in District 10 to take part in meetings with the supervisor and to help outreach efforts with community groups. Respond to this newsletter or email [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) if you want to help.

** 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ New LGBTQ+ Working Group
------------------------------------------------------------

Indivisible SF has a new working group! The LGBTQ+ Working Group will fight for the safety, freedom, and dignity of all LGBTQIA+ people, of all colors, locally and nationally.

Longtime members may remember that we had an LGBTQ+ group from the very beginning. Then, during the Biden years, we shrank a lot, and the members of that group—along with most others—either ended up in other groups or drifted out. Now, as Indivisible SF has rebounded, we’re ready to rebuild this group and renew our efforts to fight for LGBTQ+ rights.

We will collaborate with other working groups in ISF, other Indivisible chapters, and a broad coalition of LGBTQ+ political organizations both local and across the state. We will use non-violent tactics that have proven effective in the past by history and our allies.

Ignore the doomers and the nihilists—decide your own fate! No resistance is too small, but it's always better with others! Join us on Slack (#lgbtq_action ([link removed]) ) or at our September public meeting!

** Empower San Francisco Small Businesses to Stand Up for Their Rights and Protect Employees
------------------------------------------------------------

Join a one-hour volunteer training and help empower San Francisco small business owners with knowledge of their legal rights and responsibilities during federal agent raids. Together, we’ll invite them to learn about workplace protections and share vital resources that keep our communities safe and strong.

Please register for a one-hour volunteer training session. Sessions are offered:

* Every Other Tuesday, 5:30 - 6:30 PM ([link removed])
* Every Wednesday, 12:00 - 1:00 PM ([link removed])

This is a local campaign that was piloted with the ISF Immigration Channel volunteers and is now ready for wider distribution. There is no website info on this, so please respond to this newsletter or email [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) with any questions.

** No Funds for Trumpism: Partisan Gridlock & Possible Government Shutdown
------------------------------------------------------------

The budget battle in Washington remains stalemated in partisan gridlock. To their credit, Democrats are demanding that funds the MAGA Regime illegally cut from Medicare, Medicaid, and Obamacare be restored. Meanwhile, without input from Democrats, Republicans have unilaterally crafted a Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the government until November 21 at current levels with some minor adjustments. They want to jam through a House vote on their bill on Friday -- though it's not clear if hard-right Republican extremists will go along because the CR fails to make even greater, more savage cuts to the domestic safety net.

If no appropriation bills or a new CR are passed by midnight September 30, portions of the federal government will shut down. Though the root problem is their own intransigent insistence on MAGA extremism, Republicans will try to blame Democrats for the shutdown.

Our position remains the same as last week, we call upon our Members of Congress (MoC) to hold fast to democratic principles and basic human decency by using their "power of the purse" to resist MAGA Regime extremism. Please contact your representatives again and make your views known in your own words or use our suggested call script.

Contact Members of Congress and tell them: No money for Trumpism! ([link removed])

** The battle for Gavin Newsom's soul And the soul of the Democratic Party: Urge him to sign bills protecting LGBTQ+ people!
------------------------------------------------------------

Governor Gavin Newsom is out-Trumping Trump, and Democrats love it. But after platforming and pandering to fascists, and quietly killing bills to protect trans children ([link removed]) , LGBTQ+ people are worried ([link removed]) that Newsom will betray the trans community.

We beat authoritarianism by standing together, not by feeding one minority after another into the insatiable maw of the Republican party fascists.

As Californians, we must convince Governor Newsom -- with the carrot and the stick -- that it is in his best interest to defend everybody who lives here, flees here, or visits here. More than anything, Democrats crave politicians with a spine, like Governor Janet "I'll see you in court ([link removed]) " Mills of Maine or Governor JB Pritzker of Illinois, who have been unflinching in their defense of trans rights. And the Democratic coalition needs the support of LGBTQ+ people. Newsome can be a fascist collaborator or an ally.

And it starts with signing a few little bills.

Contact Governor Newsom and tell him: sign the bills protecting LGBTQ+ people! ([link removed])

** Tell the Golden Gate Bridge District: Drop the Restitution Charges against the Golden Gate 26!
------------------------------------------------------------

From #DropTheResty ([link removed]) :

On Tax Day, 2024, the people now known as the Golden Gate 26 (“GG26”) were arrested for protesting the use of SF tax dollars to fund the genocide in Palestine. They allegedly stopped traffic for a few hours on the Golden Gate Bridge - their banner: “Stop the World for Gaza”. San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins responded with 44 trumped-up charges per defendant, including false imprisonment, and added serious felony conspiracy charges for eight of the GG26. Most of these have since been dismissed.

Now, the Bridge District Board is demanding the GG26 pay a staggering $162,554—a supposed toll revenue loss. This is a politically charged and unprecedented move. In 2021, the Board took no such action against anti-vaccine protesters ([link removed]) , even after their demonstration injured five people. This case is the first time in the Golden Gate Bridge’s history that the Bridge District has sought restitution for a traffic disruption, and their selective use of restitution against the GG26 raises serious concerns about anti-Palestine political bias.

We’re asking people to email the Golden Gate District Secretary by 5 PM on Thursday, Sept 25, to ask that they drop the restitution claim. See the script here.

#DropTheResty is also encouraging people to call-in to the hearing on Friday, Sept 26, or rally in person.
See the event here. ([link removed]) If you are calling to leave a public comment on Sept 26, call (415) 569-6446 at 9:45am to be let into the 10am meeting.

** In-Q-Tel: Congress must audit this shady taxpayer funded, MAGA-aligned venture fund
------------------------------------------------------------

In-Q-Tel (IQT) is a venture capital fund that gets taxpayer money through the CIA every year. In exchange for investing, In-Q-Tel gets perpetual use licenses to benefit the federal government. IQT’s transparency is extremely low, foregoing the usual federal procurement processes and often backing companies where its Board members have financial ties.

Some of the companies In-Q-Tel funds are infamous surveillance moguls Palantir, Anduril, and Blackbag. Is anyone ensuring that the technology procured through government contracts is not the same technology that’s covered by the perpetual use licenses?

Contact your Members of Congress and tell them: audit In-Q-Tel! ([link removed]) And, read more on our blog ([link removed]) .

** What happened to the Waterbuck?
------------------------------------------------------------

In the wake of the Kirk killing, we are living through a sustained period of irresponsible reporting aimed at poltiical division and demonizing minorities, even though the suspect was himself a white man. To keep all of us safe, regardless of skin color, creed, sexuality, or political leanings, we must demand better from a media obsessed with sowing hate.

Let’s begin with a foundational story from the Bavenda people of South Africa handed down through generations to their young people:

“Three beautiful Waterbuck were great friends. They lived together in the woods, eating together, sleeping together, working together. Unknown to the Waterbuck, Lion watched them constantly. What a nice tasty meal a Waterbuck would make, were his greedy thoughts. But three Waterbuck together were more than he could tackle. One day the three friends quarreled. They separated. Each went his own way. And Lion chuckled to himself. He followed first one Waterbuck which he killed, then a second, then a third.”

-- From In Unity Is Strength: A Bavenda Folktale ([link removed])

The moral of the story: United we stand; divided we fall.

We live in a time of great division and hatred fomented by our predominantly white, privileged leadership along racial lines. In order to survive and build a better world, we must promote unity. More on our blog. ([link removed])
