John,

Here at Issue One Action, we believe in the power and promise of our democracy — and we know you do too.

But we also acknowledge that the last few months have been a bumpy road and many feel like our democracy is at a tipping point — and one big reason for that is executive overreach.

We know you get it — and we know you and many in this country are pleading for us all to unite around our country’s democratic norms and baseline constitutional principles. Americans across the political spectrum are ready for action; now we just need our elected leaders to meet us there.

And new polling from Issue One backs this up.

Their poll shows that Americans — left, right, and center — largely support checking executive overreach and want our leaders in Congress to do something about it. They want our branches of government to serve as a check on one another. [1]

What’s more is that Issue One also has a plan for how to make it happen. [2] These are steps Congress can take right now to fix the growing power of the executive branch.

So today, on Constitution Day, we’re finding reason to hope; because while America feels divided right now, there’s consensus amongst many that we don’t want a king — we’re a government of, by, and for the people.

We find inspiration in that, and we hope you do too. We aren’t alone in our pursuit to protect and strengthen our democracy. Many Americans across the country believe in our democratic norms and institutions.

America is supposed to be a nation of, by, and for the people — not an unchecked leader who acts like a king. We need Congress to stand up for the oath they swore to the Constitution, push back on the disregard for our democratic norms, and to stand up for the American people.

To demonstrate why this system and upholding it is so important, we’re sharing a video that Issue One put together to show why the erosion of checks and balances would be so problematic for our country — and they did it by telling a story through a sport that many Americans know and love: football.

Watch and share the video with your family and friends!

Together we’re protecting democracy,
The Issue One Action Team
