Take a look at this Democracy Docket headline that caught our attention recently:

“Meet Adam Kincaid: The Hidden Hand Behind the Texas GOP’s Redistricting Power Grab”

Republicans have set up their own organization focused on redistricting — the National Republican Redistricting Trust, or NRRT.

The problem? Its leader, Adam Kincaid, has a long history of manipulating maps to lock in electoral success for Republicans. He’s done it in states like Georgia, Ohio, North Carolina, Florida, and Texas — where the GOP just passed an extreme gerrymander to stack the deck in their favor. “As head of the NRRT and its affiliated dark money group, Fair Lines America,” Democracy Docket writes, “he has overseen the national strategy of structuring political lines to benefit one party alone."

His plans for the NRRT are clear: Systemically help Republicans steal power at the expense of voters by proposing extreme gerrymanders. In his own words, “It’s a priority to keep the House, and Republicans should be looking for as many seats as we can get.”

The contrast between the NRRT and the NDRC couldn’t be more stark. The NDRC is working to protect and defend fair maps to ensure a truly representative democracy for all voters.

The big difference between our two organizations is that the NDRC fights for fairness, first and foremost.

As A.G. Eric Holder said: “I’ve believed consistently that wherever Democrats can fairly compete, they can win.”

We fight for independent commissions and a fair redistricting process. They actively fight those things because they believe that reforms will hurt their chances of winning.

This is a big deal, John. We are approaching next year’s midterm elections, which will have big implications for some of our most fundamental rights. If Republicans and the NRRT pass their extreme gerrymanders, they will lock in control of the House of Representatives well before Election Day!
