**outstanding achievements in improving Michigan aviation*" "
*LANSING, Mich.* - At their Sept. 10 meeting held in Bellaire in conjunction with the Michigan Association of Airport Executives (MAAE) fall conference, the Michigan Aeronautics Commission (MAC) and Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced the Award of Excellence winners for achievements in promoting and improving aviation. These awards are presented to airports, aviators, professionals, consultants and others.
The 2025 award winners are:
* *The Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP)* [ [link removed] ]
Based in Washington, D.C., and managed by the Transportation Research Board under the National Academies of Sciences Engineering and Medicine, ACRP was selected for two decades of transformative contributions to the aviation industry. Through rigorous research, community collaboration and practical innovation, ACRP has empowered aviation with tools, knowledge and solutions that enhance airport operations, safety and sustainability. This milestone celebrates ACRP's enduring impact and its continued commitment to advancing the future of aviation.
* *Charlie Tyson*
As the technology activation director for the Michigan Economic Development Corp.'s (MEDC) Office of Future Mobility and Electrification, Tyson was recognized for his outstanding leadership and innovation advancing aviation technology initiatives for the state of Michigan. Through strategic vision, cross-sector collaboration and commitment to operational excellence, Tyson has successfully supported pioneering programs that enhance safety, efficiency and sustainability in advanced aerial mobility. Tyson's dedication has not only modernized the infrastructure but also set a new standard for technological integration across Michigan's aviation industry.
"I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to the award winners for their hard work and dedication to Michigan aviation," said Bryan Budds, MAC director and MDOT Office of Aeronautics administrator. "The MAC, MDOT and the aviation community truly appreciate these efforts that have not gone unnoticed and will solidify our efforts as a leader in aviation."
The MAC and MDOT have recognized airports, individuals and organizations whose innovative contributions have led to significant improvements to facilities, operations or public relations that support aviation in Michigan. The MAC is responsible for the general supervision of aeronautics within Michigan.
