EDGECOMB - As of September 15, the Maine Department of Transportation began work at the intersection of Route 1, Cochran Road, and Cross Road.

Crews will remove the existing flashing beacons and install a new full traffic signal system.

This work will also include a lighted "Red Light Ahead" sign on the northbound Route 1 approach, stamped pavement, and new pavement markings.

Work is expected to be completed by September 25.

Drivers should expect a shoulder closure during the daytime on September 22 and 23. Brief lane closures with alternating one-way traffic will take place during nighttime work.

This project is designed to improve traffic safety conditions at this busy intersection.

The contractor for this project is Frazier Signal Technologies, LLC, of Veazie, Maine. The total contract amount is $324,693.
