The Trump administration just rolled out a brutal new policy mandating the indefinite detention of undocumented immigrants without a bond hearing.

This constitutes a clear violation of due process, endangering families. Now, parents risk months or years in overcrowded, unsafe facilities, while children will face instability and mental health challenges. Entire neighborhoods and industries, including agriculture and construction, will be disrupted by these needless detentions.

As Maryland’s Attorney General, I’ve joined a coalition of 19 other attorneys general to challenge this policy in court, filing an amicus brief that argues this approach is unlawful, inhumane, and a violation of fundamental due process.

I refuse to stand by while families are torn apart and taxpayers are forced to foot the bill for senseless, expensive detention programs.
