In 2021, the Climate Corporate Accountability Act failed before it even got to the Senate floor. The next year, it failed again by just one vote. But EnviroVoters kept fighting until it passed—and now, it's changing the world with the nation's first comprehensive emissions reporting requirements.
In the 20 years I've worked at EnviroVoters, I've seen this story play out over and over again. We face hard times, rollbacks, and tough losses. We keep fighting. And then we win.
2026 promises to be a year of massive change, and with that comes hope. The Governor's race and midterms are around the corner, and many of our priority bills will be coming back to the state legislature in 2026. Next year, California gets another chance to take bold action for clean transit, protecting our precious wild spaces, and accelerating the transition away from fossil fuels.
We saw so much energy and momentum from EnviroVoters members like you this legislative session. You fought to make polluters pay for the damage they've done; to make California affordable for the people who call it home; and to protect the clean air we breathe and clean water we drink. That courage, dedication, and hope is a victory worth celebrating.
Progress isn't linear—it's a constant back-and-forth. But every step back makes us fight harder than ever to take the next two steps forward for our community, our state, and our world.
Thank you for being part of this movement,
Mike Young
