Dear Friend,

On her first day back in Parliament, Elizabeth May didn’t mince words:

“There's a reason that the Conservatives backed everything that was brought forward in May and June… I had thought, mistakenly, that when you are short four votes to be able to govern as a majority, and you're the Liberal Party, you'd look for those four votes on the left. They didn't need to look on the left, because they've moved so far to the right. They got all the votes they needed from the Conservatives. I hope that stops.”

Elizabeth also pointed to a deeper problem — the way Carney’s government rammed legislation through last session, shutting out democratic debate. Bill C-5 was the clearest example: the “bulldozer bill” that stripped away environmental protections, violated Indigenous rights, and silenced public input.

“Our Westminster parliamentary system is important as a xxxxxx of our democracy in this country. Mr. Carney doesn't seem to respect it so far. We'll see if that changes in the coming weeks. Right now, climate change is not a priority.”

Canadians expected climate leadership. Instead, Mark Carney is leaning on Conservative votes and talking about building pipelines for “decarbonized oil.”

And it doesn’t stop there. Soon, Carney’s government will officially repeal the Digital Services Tax — allowing American tech giants Google, Meta, Amazon, and Apple to pay no taxes on the services they sell in Canada. The DST, which already exists in France, Italy, Spain, and the UK, would have raised billions for our public services. Now, under U.S. pressure, it’s gone.

What we’ve seen so far makes it plain: this is a government that serves the powerful instead of the people. On climate. On tax fairness. On democracy itself.

Elizabeth is fighting back. But we need more voices in Parliament who will never cave to Big Tech, never retreat on climate, and never trade away our sovereignty.

Will you chip in today to help elect them?
