New Crisis, Same Story! Episode Three
New Crisis, Same Story! is back with our third episode! Watch as we highlight community leaders from Dallas, Des Moines and Miami who are working to adapt workforce and small business development programs to address unemployment and underemployment disparities that have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. This episode is moderated by Sharice Davis, Program Manager for the Racial Wealth Divide Initiative at Prosperity Now, and features Marvin DeJear, Director at the Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families; Sheila Marks-Jolivette, Chief Executive Officer at Inspiring Tomorrow’s Leaders; and Maria Coto, Executive Director at Partners for Self-Employment. The leaders share strategies to equip people in their communities with the skills and supports needed to thrive in the workforce and the interventions they’ve designed to challenge the systems that inhibit equitable access to opportunity.
This series will highlight the grassroots and community innovations that have been developed and piloted to address the challenges of racial economic inequality. In this series, we will feature nonprofit leaders of color across U.S. cities and share how they are advancing racial economic equity solutions in health care, employment, income, housing and education – particularly in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. Together, we will discuss the historical basis for present-day inequality and elevate solutions that are being used to disrupt the reoccurring patterns of inequality in communities of color.
