The end of child labor. We have these things because of the labor movement, specifically a 1914 labor battle in Ludlow, Colorado. Miners went on strike for better wages, safety rule enforcement, basic dignity. John D. Rockefeller Jr owned the mine, owned the miner’s houses, and in response to their strike, hired armed guards to break it. These forces opened fire on the families of the striking miners killing 19, and across Colorado as many as 199 people were killed in the effort to break the strike. The factors that coalesced to foment the 1914 Ludlow massacre have returned in the world of 2025. Far-right billionaires like Musk, Thiel, and Bezos harbor the same virulent, dehumanizing, anti-union hatred as their robber barons forebears but with even more power and the greatest technology in human history (A.I.). Unions, the left’s strongest counter against these forces have been systematically weakened. Meanwhile, the National-Guard and American national security apparatus which killed those workers in Ludlow are once again being deployed against the left with Trump using the auspices of national security to crush labor. Our only salvation from the crisis we face is the resurgence of the American Labor movement and why I am proud to be endorsed by the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) - the organization that organized the 1914 Ludlow Strike. I worked as the speechwriter for labor legend Richard Trumka, the former President of the UMWA and AFL-CIO and I am taking on one of the most-anti labor voices in Congress, Lauren Boebert.
