Time is running out—Republican leaders in Congress need to move forward to
pass a funding bill by September 30th or risk shutting down the
government. 

[ [link removed] ]QUICK signature: Tell the Republican leaders who control Congress to do
their job and pass a funding bill that lifts families up, boosts the
economy, lowers the cost of living and health care, and does NOT defund
public schools, take away health care, or cut funding for research into
life-saving cures.

Families across the country desperately need Republican leaders (who are
the majority that control both the U.S. House and U.S. Senate right now)
to show up and pass a funding deal that invests in the things we need:
lowered costs of living, affordable health care, public schools, public
health, life-saving scientific research, and childcare, while putting a
stop to the harmful cuts to our health care, food assistance, and basic
human dignity.

But wait, didn’t Republicans in Congress just make massive cuts to the
things families need most? 

In fact, yes! 

Just 2 months ago, Trump and Republicans in Congress voted to enact cuts
to programs that allow families to thrive while driving up our national
debt, and everyone is going to pay the price:

* Republicans in Congress slashed over $1 trillion from Medicaid and the
ACA—the biggest cut to health care in U.S. history! That amounts to
taking health care away from nearly 17 million people, undermining
maternal and child health, closing 300 rural hospitals, and adding red
tape for parents to access health care. 
* The bill also made a historically harmful $186 billion cut to
SNAP/food stamps and enforces new work requirements and MORE red tape
for parents all at a time when costs are soaring for families, thanks
to tariffs. 
* And the bad news doesn’t stop there, this awful piece of legislation
allows the transfer of millions of dollars in K-12 education funding
to private schools, defunds Planned Parenthood, and so much more. 
* Make no mistake: these funding cuts will only raise the already-high
cost of living. When 17 million people lose their health coverage,
everyone will pay the price. In fact, we can expect 24 million people
to see their insurance prices increase by 18 percent, leading the
average American to rack up $22,280 in medical debt. [1]

All of this is done in order to give even more tax cuts to billionaires
and to fund Trump’s immigration policies of separating families, human
rights abuses, and terrifying hardworking immigrants. But like a toddler
in a candy store, the cuts two months ago were not enough. And they are
ready to throw an epic tantrum. 

[ [link removed] ]Now, unbelievably, they are coming back to cut even more. Say it with
me: ABSOLUTELY NOT. Moms and families across the country have had enough
and are calling on the Republican leaders who control Congress to fix the
high cost of health care and put together a funding bill that serves
families! 

Here’s the bottom line: Republicans in Congress are threatening to shut
down the government unless they are able to increase health care costs,
raise the costs of living, and defund public education. Talk about a
reverse Robin Hood—robbing working families to give it to the ultra rich. 

[ [link removed] ]Let’s be clear: Republicans control the House, the Senate, AND the
White House. If the government shuts down, it's because they chose to shut
it down rather than pass a funding bill that serves the American people. 

Budgets reflect our shared priorities. Republicans are choosing to
prioritize slashing health care, as well as other programs that we as
taxpayers pay for so we can build good lives, even if that means forcing a
government shutdown. Families don’t have time to waste; we need leaders to
fight to lower costs for working families and open the doors to
opportunity for everyone. Not slam doors in our faces.

families and pass a funding bill that allows us to build a better future
for all of us, not line the pockets of the ultra-wealthy while harming our
neighbors and friends.
