This is The Torchlight, our weekly newsletter keeping you informed on the
fight to reignite the American Dream — and how you can make a difference in
your community.

A note on last week’s tragedy

Out of respect for Charlie Kirk, we paused our regular emails since this past
Thursday. Like you, we are deeply saddened by his tragic and senseless murder.
The entire AFP community is reeling from this devastating act of political
violence.

It is a stark reminder of why our vision for America matters more than ever.
We will always fight for freedom of speech and the open dialogue that Charlie
so passionately defended.

⚡ ICYMI: Permitting reform is the key to unlocking American energy — and it’s
stuck in red tape.

<[link removed]>

Watch AFP President and CEO Emily Seidel break down why permitting reform
matters to families like yours.

Whether it’s building new roads, expanding energy access, or lowering costs,
outdated regulations are slowing everything down.

Right now, Congress has a chance to pass real reform that cuts through the red
tape and gets America moving again. But they won’t act unless they hear from
you.

📣 Shutdowns hurt families — not just politics

<[link removed]>

Congress needs to stop playing games with your future.

Every year, Washington politicians push the country to the brink of a
government shutdown.

Shutdowns are reckless, costly, and unnecessary. They rattle financial
markets, waste billions, and leave families stuck with bad backroom deals that
lead to bloated omnibus bills.

Here’s the worst part: Members of Congress don’t vote for these omnibus bills
because they are good policy (most don’t even read them), but simply to avoid a
government shutdown.

It’s time to hold Congress accountable. The Prevent Government Shutdowns Act
is a commonsense reform that keeps the government open, forces lawmakers to
stay and finish their work, and protects families from Washington’s dysfunction.

📬 Send a message to Congress — tell them to stop the games and prevent future
shutdowns.

📰 Hot off AFP’s press

AFP Blog | Reform both parties can agree on

A healthy competition among balanced budget amendment proposals in the House
could rebuild support for fiscal restraint while uniting lawmakers around the
strongest option. Drawing on lessons from the 1990s, this approach can spark
the more inclusive budgeting process America needs.

Deregulation is a bread-and-butter issue for everyday Americans. Small
businesses face thousands of new federal rules each year, with compliance costs
up to $50,000 per employee. Cutting red tape can lower costs, boost innovation,
and restore accountability, creating real opportunities for families and
communities.

Americans for Prosperity believes freedom and opportunity are the keys to
unleashing prosperity for all. We are a community of millions of concerned
citizens advocating for solutions based on proven principles to tackle the
country’s most critical challenges.
