Friend, [[link removed]]
September is a time when our Young Center Familia comes together to celebrate the month-long Waymakers Mileage Challenge and honor the journeys of the children who come to this country in search of safety, dignity, and the pursuit of their dreams. It’s also a month when Hispanic and Latino communities come together to celebrate their heritage, highlighting their history, culture, and contributions to the United States.
In short, September is a time to celebrate community, diversity, and joy. There’s no denying that all three are currently under attack. But in moments like these, we want you to remember that you aren’t alone. Despite attempts to dismantle the rights of immigrants, the Young Center remains steadfast in our work protecting the rights and best interests of children who arrive in this country on their own.
The work done over Labor Day weekend with our partner organizations to successfully stop several flights [[link removed]] containing hundreds of Guatemalan children after the Trump administration unlawfully decided to deport them, is only one powerful example of our profound commitment to keeping kids safe, no matter what.
Additionally, our community is going strong. Halfway into our Waymakers Mileage Challenge, we’ve walked 6,583 miles out of our 20,000 total. We’ve also managed to raise over $73,000.00. That’s over half of our $100,000.00 goal.
Participating in the Waymaker’s Mileage Challenge in person or by giving online allows us to continue our important work. No matter what they say, so many of us are showing up for children in different ways. But always with decency, compassion, non-violence, diligence, and joy. And every moment of joy we cultivate is a defiant act against oppression, reclaiming agency, and building community.
It isn’t easy, but it is necessary. Will you join us in continuing to take steps with our compassionate, diligent, and joyful community to Be A Waymaker for immigrant children and their families?
