Hi John,
My very first All Peoples Celebration was in 2011 at the Convention Center in downtown San Diego. I remember immediately feeling something rare, familiar, and warm, like being back home in the lush green of North Carolina in the spring at a family reunion, but with strangers. If inclusion had a voice, it would sound like a community singing in unison, a sound of unmatched beauty. A reverberation of joy and hope, reminding us that together we can rise above hate and despair. These reflections still ring true today.

This January will mark my 15th year attending All Peoples Celebration, and my 10th year helping to weave together this special community gathering. It is a tradition that my family looks forward to every January. We anticipate the good vibes and beautiful chaos: the elegant outfits, the art in Community Space, the laughter of children who are growing before our eyes, and the wide, unforgettable smiles I hold onto when the world feels heavy. I can always count on the performers and speakers on stage to energize us and honor the living legacy of Dr. King’s vision of a Beloved Community, one that leans on each other, celebrates diversity, and encourages everyone to protect the dignity of all people. Your chance to experience (or re-experience) this day with Alliance San Diego and the broader San Diego community is just around the corner.
