I will not be lectured about what our military needs by a five-deferment draft dodger. It certainly does not need a name change.
Unlike Donald Trump, I’ve actually been to war. I was one of the first handful of Army women flying combat missions in Iraq. I understand the true costs—not just in dollars and cents, but in our troops’ blood and sweat.
I ran for office to help the brave men and women I had the honor of serving alongside. Our troops sacrifice every day for this country, and Pete Hegseth thinks his own vanity is enough to offer them in return.
What about competent military leadership? Clear and confidential mission communications? Strengthening partnerships with our global allies?
Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth’s “Department of War” achieves none of that. But I won’t stop working toward upholding military leadership that reflects the sacrifice of our troops.
Publicity stunts from self-serving, insecure men who can't tell the difference between true patriotism and hateful propaganda will never diminish my love for this country—or my willingness to sacrifice for it even when weak men like them won’t.
These titanium legs don't buckle.
Our Servicemembers and Veterans deserve better than this showmanship disguised as leadership. Glorifying war doesn’t address any of the problems our military currently faces. All it does is stroke Donald Trump’s ego—which is all Pete Hegseth knows how to do.
