NBWA releases Beer Purchasers’ Index for June

Data for the June 2020 BPI was collected from June 10 through June 19, coinciding with continued on-premise closures and simultaneous increased sales in off-premise establishments. The total Beer Purchasers' Index for June 2020 reached an all-time high mark of 81, significantly above last year's reading of 48 in June 2019. "Beer distributors have taken an aggressive stance in their ordering to ensure there will be ample supply of beer heading into the hot summer months of 2020," said NBWA Chief Economist Lester Jones.

Justices refuse to hear Monster Energy arbitrator bias case

Olympic Eagle Distributing announced that the U.S. Supreme Court allowed a Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling to stand that requires arbitrators to disclose whether they have an ownership interest in their for-profit alternative dispute company. The landmark decision protects the rights of parties to a fair and impartial judge or “neutral” in an arbitration hearing. The decision stems from a 2006 dispute over an agreement between Olympic Eagle and Monster Energy to distribute the company’s drinks for 20 years in an exclusive territory in Washington state.

Delta Air Lines brings back beer on flights

Delta Air Lines is restoring wine and beer options across most of its U.S. flights three months after it eliminated the options at the beginning of the pandemic as a safety measure. "We know beer and wine are the adult beverages our customers want most," said Allison Ausband, Delta's senior vice president of in-flight service, in a release. "These selections are the first step towards a normalized beverage offering while we continue to keep customer and crew safety at the center of everything we do."
