Hi John, it’s Mary Peltola. Can I reintroduce myself? I grew up far from any major cities, in places like Kwethluk and Bethel — communities with large populations of Alaska Natives, where we fish in the summers to fill our freezers with food for the year. I was raised to value our freedom, and to protect our way of life. And I firmly believe we have an obligation to build a secure future for our children and the generations to come. So when a special election was called to succeed my friend, the late Congressman Don Young, I entered the race to serve my community. At the time, political “experts” said I had no real chance at winning, but that didn’t stop me. So I kept up the fight, and defied the odds to become the first Alaska Native to represent our state in Congress. In Congress, I worked across the aisle and overcame partisan gridlock to bring home big wins for Alaska, and to secure a strong future for our state. I brought home $46 million in funding to secure our Alaska border, gave servicemembers the largest pay raise in over a decade, created high-paying union jobs for Alaska’s working families, and so much more. I believe those are the kind of issues we need to be focusing on in Congress. We need to bring more wins home for working families instead of playing politics. That’s why today, I’m reaching out and asking you to support ModSquad.
