Last week was a difficult one for our nation, marked by senseless violence, painful remembrance and a renewed call for unity in the face of division. The horrific assassination of Charlie Kirk is a sobering reminder of the dangerous rise in political violence. No disagreement can ever justify hatred or bloodshed. America is strongest when we resolve our differences through civil debate and mutual respect. We must reject any celebration of violence and choose a better path forward, rooted in dignity, compassion and the values that unite us.
We also marked the 24th anniversary of the September 11th attacks. We will never forget the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the bravery of our first responders or the unity that carried our nation through its darkest day.
While it was a difficult week, we continued work on several critical fronts. After long hours and late-night markups, the House Appropriations Committee completed action on all 12 funding bills, an important step to restore fiscal discipline and deliver responsible government. We also passed the annual defense bill to strengthen our military and support our servicemembers.
Finally, I always make time to connect with folks from FL-18. This week I met with aviation leaders, welcomed students visiting through the Randy Roberts Foundation and spoke with members of the National Day of Prayer Task Force. Hearing directly from the people I serve is one of the most important parts of this job.
