We are living in a time of rapidly accelerating environmental and social crises that require urgent, coordinated action on a global scale. Solving these challenges, building a sustainable future, and ensuring no one is left behind has never been more important than it is now—and it's what inspires us at IISD every day.
Over the past year, we have looked at how to sharpen our focus and deepen our commitment to this mission by creating a new strategic plan for 2025–2030 that I am honoured to share with you today.
The process of preparing this plan has involved extensive engagement across our organization with all staff and our board of directors, as well as consultations with our key partners globally, whom we thank for their input.
Throughout this time, we heard consistently from our partners that what makes IISD unique is how our dedicated team goes beyond the remit of a typical think tank—we not only produce top-quality research and offer trusted policy advice, we also go further to co-create our solutions with those who have critical knowledge of local contexts and needs, providing hands-on support for implementation.
In short, we translate policy into practice to achieve high-impact results.
Headquartered in Canada but with international reach, over the next 5 years, we’ll be deepening the partnerships we have with organizations and governments in more than 100 countries, especially those in the Global South, and focusing on five key areas of sustainable development: Climate, Nature, Social Equity, Sustainable Economies, and International Governance.
Our experts have already rolled up their sleeves and are working hard toward our goals—we hope you’ll join us on this path forward.
