Dear John,

This is huge.

Thanks to activists like you speaking up for animals, Colorado's governor just enacted a law that requires all eggs sold in the state to come from hens who are free from cages and allowed to exhibit more natural behaviors.

Pressure from Mercy For Animals helped secure this far-reaching move. While the bill was being negotiated, our senior vice president of advocacy, a Colorado resident, filed a ballot initiative with similar provisions. This signaled to the egg industry and the legislature that we were prepared to fight for hens if the legislation was unsuccessful. Opposition to the bill subsequently dwindled, and now that the bill has passed, Mercy For Animals will not need to pursue the ballot initiative.

Mercy For Animals will continue pushing for increased protections for egg-laying hens and all farmed animals and is proud to have been part of a powerful coalition of animal advocates that made this progress possible.

Progress like this would not be possible without support from animal activists like you. Please consider making a gift to Mercy For Animals [[link removed]] so that, together, we may continue to reduce animal suffering throughout the world.

Thank you.

Sincerely, AJ Albrecht
Director of Government Affairs
