John –

McDonald's says they see George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Atatiana Jefferson in their crew members. For a few brief hours, they even changed their name on Twitter to "Amplifying Black Voices." But as a McDonald's worker, I know what that means in reality. It means Black workers like myself and other Fight for $15 activists getting paid poverty wages. It means a lack of masks and gloves during the pandemic.

That's why McDonald's workers marched and went on strike in Chicago on Juneteenth, not just to demand McDonald's stop paying poverty wages and support union rights, but for Black freedom.

John, the same forces that keep Black and Brown folks underpaid and overpoliced let corporations exploit us. Tell McDonald's: if you say Black Lives Matter, prioritize racial and economic justice in your plan to reopen. >>

Uprisings around the country against police brutality are happening as workers walk off the job -- and it's working.

In Oakland, workers went on strike to shut down a McDonald's because of horrible COVID-19 safety violations -- including workers being told to use a dog diaper as a mask -- and a judge ordered it remain closed. It shouldn't take going on strike -- AFTER 11 workers tested positive for COVID-19 -- to get McDonald's to agree to clean their stores during a pandemic. But you and I know it does, so that's what we did.

Justice is being safe at work, and not worrying that a corporation will put their profits ahead of our safety and well-being.

Sign the petition any plan to reopen McDonald's restaurants MUST include racial and economic justice. >>
