Our country is at a crossroads, John, and what we do over the next few weeks will be the true testament to where we stand as a nation.

What kind of America are we going to be?

President Franklin Delano Roosevelt once said,

“The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.”

My grandfather, during the Great Depression, became a huge fan of FDR because he saw how a president stood up for working people, for those struggling to get by, for the American dream.

He was a UAW union organizer who stood up to fight — not for a political party, but for a shared vision of a brighter future where workers earned a fair wage and could live the American Dream.

Now, we have a president whose signature legislation cuts off millions of people from their health care, strips away feeding programs for the hungry, and eliminates services for those who are disabled, all to give hundreds of thousands of dollars to the wealthiest amongst us.

These days, we are in a fight as Donald Trump attacks the bedrock programs that my grandfather saw established. That’s just wrong, John.

There are too many people in this country who work hard every day, who fight every single day for their families to put food on the table, to provide for health care, and to take care of the needs of those that they love who are still struggling to make it.

Republicans are going to continue to make life harder, not easier, in the coming months. We need to be informed and organized, ready to fight to redeem the American dream during this upcoming budget battle.

Meeting our fundraising goal and making a strong statement ahead of this month’s FEC deadline puts us one step closer to a Senate majority that is fighting for working families. Please pitch in before tonight’s mid-month deadline to fuel our work. [[link removed]]

John, I am once again asking: what kind of America are we going to be?

One that caters to the wealthy and well-connected? Or one that stands up for the hardworking people who make this country thrive?

I know what I’m fighting for.

With love and gratitude,
