John, it’s Hispanic Heritage Month, and I’m so proud to be Latina.

This month is for celebrating the resilience of our Latino community. I’m thinking about our roots and the amazing journey so many of our families have taken, and continue to take.

Growing up in rural Arizona, I worked in the cotton fields alongside my parents, just like countless hardworking Latino families who simply wanted to achieve their own American dream.

Despite the challenges and the poverty we faced, my family and community taught me the power of perseverance and dedication. That’s what propelled me into a 20-year career in the U.S. Marine Corps, and now, as a candidate running to become one of the first Latinas elected to Congress from Arizona.

And right now, with the Trump Administration’s ongoing attacks and discriminatory policies against our Latino communities, it’s never been more important to have more Latino leaders in Congress.

I’m stepping up because our community is under threat, and I’m ready to fight for them. But I can’t do this alone.
