Dear Friend,
For decades, New Mexicans who lived downwind of nuclear testing or worked in uranium mines have carried illnesses, grief, and loss without recognition or justice.
After years of advocacy and organizing, we finally expanded the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) earlier this year to include the families who were long excluded.
Now, we must make sure every New Mexican who qualifies for compensation knows how to apply. The Department of Justice has now published updated guidance at justice.gov/civil/reca. That’s why I am hosting a virtual RECA Tele-Workshop this Wednesday, September 17th at 5:00PM MT.
RSVP: Register here.
This event will share updates on the new law, explain eligibility, and walk through the application process. We will also have time to answer questions from participants.
I’ll be joined by experts who have spent years helping families navigate RECA claims, including leaders from the Radiation Exposure Screening and Education Program (RESEP) and the New Mexico Radiological and Chemical Advocacy Office. Together, we’ll provide the information and resources you need to begin or support an application.
Finally, we also want to alert our community that we’ve heard credible reports of scammers reaching out to radiation-impacted communities. Please be careful with your information.
Join us on Wednesday, September 17th. No one who has borne the burden of radiation exposure should be left behind.
