SBE TO CONVENE IN LANDER TO ADDRESS STATE ASSESSMENT AND SCHOOL ACCOUNTABILITY

CHEYENNE - The Wyoming State Board of Education (SBE) will meet in person in Lander at 9 a.m. on September 18. The SBE will take action to select a vendor to administer the state assessment and consider action on rules promulgation related to graduation standards and assessment systems.

The SBE is expected to take action on recommendations from a review committee, composed of education stakeholders and facilitated by the Wyoming Department of Education (WDE), tasked with recommending a vendor to administer the statewide WY-TOPP assessment beginning in the 2026-27 school year. 

The board will also discuss the public comments that have been collected for the promulgation of Chapter 3 Graduation Standards and Requirements and Chapter 4 Assessment Systems rules. The board will deliberate on the comments received and determine whether to continue with revisions and further public comment or take action and forward the rules for Governor Mark Gordon’s consideration.

Additional items for discussion include the results of the Wyoming School Performance Ratings, released on August 28. The board and the WDE will engage in discussions on the strengths and areas for improvement within the current accountability system. Public comment is encouraged. 

The board will view a showcase from a sixth-grade program at Lander Middle School in Fremont County School District #1 that takes students outside the classroom to learn integrated science and social studies standards. The program demonstrates the effectiveness of collaboration between schools and local agencies in promoting student learning.
