PFLAG x I Changed My Mind: Ria's Story

“I had this *ahhh* moment, where I was like - wait - what am I doing?”

Ria’s son, Kane, came out as trans to her when he was 13 years old. The journey didn't always sail on smooth waters, but in this transformative episode of I Changed My Mind (ICMM), Ria opens up about that journey, her experiences with raising her son, and how it even challenged her own identity and life-experience.

Ria's story is the first in our series of five stories - produced in collaboration with Second Peninsula and filmmaker Brook Sebold - that center parents, families, and LGBTQ+ individuals, their incredible stories of transformation and their courage to change and renew. Fighting For Our Pride: A Learning With Love Advocacy Plenary

In recent years the conversation around parental rights has been dominated by voices that want to limit the freedom to parent, to read, to learn, to be ourselves, and to thrive.

Our Saturday plenary at Learning WIth Love: The 2025 PFLAG National Convention will focus on our 2026 advocacy campaign, Fighting for Our Pride. We’ll talk about the ways PFLAG chapters, members, and supporters can take on local advocacy work and shift the narrative on our families, our freedoms, and guaranteeing a future where all people can thrive and be themselves.

Moderated by PFLAG National VP, Advocacy Katie Blair (she/her) our panelists will include Aisha Davis (she/her), Senior Policy Counsel at the ACLU of Illinois, Sam Helmick (they/them), President of the American Library Association, and Patty Reeves (she/her), Regional Director, Southern Region (AR, LA, OK, TX) at PFLAG National and President of PFLAG Midland/Odessa.

Don’t wait—spaces are filling up fast and we’re just weeks away! Register TODAY at pflag.org/2025convention and help us kick off Fighting For Our Pride. Because liberty and love are inseparable.

Bisexual+ Awareness Week

Happy Bisexual+ Awareness Week! 💗💜💙

What is bisexuality?

The term refers to a person who acknowledges in themselves the potential to be attracted—romantically, emotionally, and/or sexually—to people of more than one gender, not necessarily at the same time, in the same way, or to the same degree. The “bi” in bisexual can refer to attraction to genders similar to and different from one’s own. People who identify as bisexual need not have had equal sexual or romantic experience—or equal levels of attraction—with people across genders, nor any experience at all; attraction and self-identification determine orientation.

Today and every day, we celebrate our bisexual friends, family members, and loved ones.

Visit our website for bi+ resources.
