warning: Trump could use the military to disrupt the 2026 midterms.
Pritzker said of Trump, “He’d like to stop the elections in 2026, or,
frankly, take control of those elections.” The GOP is aiding Trump’s

Governors J.B. Pritzker and Gavin Newsom are warning the country that
Trump could use his military takeover of Democratic cities to keep voters
from the polls in next year’s midterms.^1
As troops pull people off of the streets of D.C. and Trump threatens
military deployments to Chicago and Baltimore, it’s no stretch to think
that the White House could send federal agents to polling places to
intimidate voters. Gov. Pritzker said of Trump, “He’d like to stop the
elections in 2026, or, frankly, take control of those elections.”^2
Republicans in Congress are aiding Trump’s anti-democratic push with the
SAVE Act. Already passed by the GOP majority in the House, this extreme
voter suppression bill fueled by the right-wing “non-citizen voting” myth
could disenfranchise millions and is currently under consideration in the
Senate. Our Senators must protect voting rights and oppose the SAVE Act.

Gov. Pritzker made the dangers of the Trump administration absolutely
clear. He said Trump is taking cues from “authoritarian regimes” and that
dictatorships consolidate power by provoking “mayhem that requires
military interdiction.”^3
Trump is trying to upend the foundations of voting rights and free
elections. He called for an end to mail-in balloting and again cast doubts
on the legitimacy of voting machines.^4 He pushed a successful extremist
gerrymandering plan through in Texas that was called a “hijacking of
democracy in plain sight.”^5 He’s even calling for national voter ID^6 — a
plan that directly complements the SAVE Act.
The GOP’s SAVE Act could disenfranchise millions of voters. The bill would
require people to prove that they’re citizens in order to vote by
providing a birth certificate, passport, or naturalization papers. 21
million eligible voters don’t have these documents readily available. The
Senate must stop this brazen attempt to restrict voting rights.
