John:

We wanted to share with you the results of our recent membership survey on gun control. While some Republicans in Washington are calling for a new federal "red flag" gun confiscation law, grassroots conservatives do not support the idea.

With more than 14,000 votes cast, 88% oppose such a law, 8% are undecided, and only 4% support it. See results here.

The overwhelming view is that such a law would undermine the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans while failing to stop gun crimes.

Congressmen Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Jim Jordan (R-OH) wrote a column that does a good job of addressing these concerns.

We appreciate everyone who voted in the poll. We're a grassroots-driven organization and your views help shape our legislative and electoral strategies.

NEW SURVEY – THE FILIBUSTER

Our next membership survey question is on the Senate rule requiring 60 votes to cut off debate (aka "the filibuster").

Click here to cast your vote.

Many Senate Democrats are vowing to eliminate the 60-vote rule if they regain control of the Senate next year, which raises the question of whether Republicans should keep it if it won't be there to stop liberal legislation in the future.

This question divides many well-meaning conservatives.

Those who support the filibuster argue that it is needed to keep the Democrats (and even Republicans) from passing liberal legislation. They also believe it's possible to get enough Democrats to save the filibuster if their leaders try to scrap it in the future.

Those conservatives who oppose the filibuster argue that it's blocking good policies supported by President Trump and that Republicans are too liberal or too spineless to muster the 41 votes needed under the filibuster to stop bad legislation anyway.

We want to know what you think.

Should Senate Republicans remove the filibuster while they have the majority to help advance President Trump's agenda or let the Democrats try to do it the next time they control the Senate?

Thank you for being part of our team and for sharing your views. Your opinion is very important to us.

Sincerely,
