John,
While working people struggle to pay increasingly higher prices for food, healthcare, education, housing, and other costs of living, the rich just keep getting richer.
According to Forbes, “the wealthiest people in America have never been wealthier,” while 86 percent of U.S. adults say they’re stressed about grocery costs, and the federal minimum wage remains stuck at a measly $7.25 an hour.
This isn’t an accident: this is the result of millionaire- and billionaire-megadonors and corporations pouring unlimited amounts of money into our elections, so their beneficiaries on both sides of the aisle in Congress will cut taxes for the rich at the expense of the rest of us.
We have three words: Tax. The. Rich.
And that’s exactly what Justice Democrats’ Rep. Delia Ramirez just introduced legislation to do.
Her bill, the Equal Tax Act, would make the tax code more equitable, taxing investment income at the same rate as labor income while closing loopholes used by the wealthy to avoid paying their fair share.
Income inequality is out of control in this country. Let’s demand that those in power tackle it by making the wealthiest few finally pay their fair share.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
