*Wyoming Innovation Partnership Expands Ties to Private Business as Governor Wraps Up State Funding for the Initiative*

"Governor Gordon’s impactful workforce development initiative" "will expand its proven reach with additional industry partners"

 

CHEYENNE, Wyo. –  Governor Mark Gordon and the Wyoming Business Alliance (WBA) have announced that the Wyoming Innovation Partnership (WIP) [ [link removed] ] will become a program of the Wyoming Business Alliance, a private non-profit entity which represents the business sector of the state. The new agreement allows the Governor’s signature workforce development initiative to strengthen and grow with new insights and direction from Wyoming’s leading industries. 

Launched in 2021 to modernize and focus Wyoming’s efforts to develop a resilient workforce and economy, WIP has met its initial goal of increasing collaboration between state entities and local partners. The partnership includes the University of Wyoming, the state’s community colleges, Wyoming Business Council, Department of Workforce Services, Wyoming Community College Commission, and Wyoming Department of Education. 

“When we launched WIP, we talked about a new approach to education that was data-driven and was built on partnerships with industry,” Governor Gordon said. “This is how we should be looking at education – through partnerships and by taking a collaborative approach to strengthening Wyoming’s economy and providing opportunities for the next generation.”

Transitioning the structure and leadership of the WIP to WBA will help foster greater input, engagement, and support from industry partners. It will also push the initiative to find new sources of funding to scale up the successful WIP programs. 

“The Wyoming Business Alliance has been on a statewide listening tour this year. Over and over businesses talk about the need for talent and workforce. This allows us to harness the great work done by the state to find new ways to invest in programs that provide a return on investment and cultivate growth,” said Renny MacKay, President of the Wyoming Business Alliance. 

As part of the move, WIP Executive Director Lauren Schoenfeld will join the staff of the Wyoming Business Alliance to provide continuity for WIP.
