** 🎉 You’re Invited to AmDoc’s 2025 Annual Event: House Party 🎉
------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Friend,

You’re invited toAmDoc’s 2025 Annual Event ([link removed]) taking place on November 11 at 26 Bridge in Brooklyn, NY.

This year’s theme—“House Party: Our House. Our Stories. Our Future” ([link removed]) —is a statement of defiance and resilience. At a time when public media and independent voices are under threat, our event will be a space to stand in solidarity with filmmakers and communities working to keep our stories alive.

For 38 years, AmDoc’s mission has been to support authentic, meaningful storytelling that reflects the complexities of our times. Even as public media and nonprofits face funding cuts, we at AmDoc have been deeply moved by the outpouring of messages of support from our community. This gathering will be our chance to give thanks and shine a light on the friends and supporters who make this work possible.

It will be an unforgettable night of connection, creativity, and commitment to independent storytelling. Get ready for indie docs’ most special night of the year!

Today, we announce that award-winning independent filmmaker Elegance Bratton (Pier Kids ([link removed]) , Move Ya Body: The Birth of House ([link removed]) ) will be presented with this year’s Creative Visionary Award and nonprofit and media philanthropy leader Vince Stehle will be presented with the Industry Trailblazer Award!

Industry Trailblazer 2025 awardee Vince Stehle is a recognized leader in nonprofit philanthropy and has a decades-long career devoted to nonprofit work across media and journalism with an emphasis on fostering sustainable creative communities and inspiring partnerships. He’s held a variety of roles at high-profile national nonprofits and family foundations, and his professional work has extended into journalism about developments within the nonprofit sector.

“It is a great honor to be recognized with the Industry Champion Award from American Documentary…I hope my work has helped underscore the importance of supporting this field, and has inspired philanthropic partners to invest in the stories that connect us all. And in this moment, when public media is under sustained assault and the field of documentary filmmaking is facing its own industry challenges, it is a time for funders to step up and support both.”

—Vince Stehle

The recipient of the 2025 Creative Visionary Award is POV alumni filmmaker Elegance Bratton, an award-winning and boundary-breaking director, writer, and producer whose work spans narrative and documentary filmmaking. His deeply personal, formally innovative films explore themes of identity, belonging, and the pursuit of self-worth—told with bold visual style and emotional depth.

“POV/American documentary is a profound institution that affirms documentary form as the primary way to speak truth to power. As a child, public television was instrumental in forming my worldview, exposing me to new ideas and imagining myself as a filmmaker. I’m honored to be awarded the Creative Visionary award and to be a part of such a powerful legacy.”

—Elegance Bratton
