Getting ready for emergencies begins with steps at home

September is National Preparedness Month [ [link removed] ]. The annual observance is a great time to consider the natural and human-caused hazards that go along with living in Snohomish County, and to take steps that can help make you and the people you care about more resilient. This year’s National Preparedness Month theme is preparedness starts at home. The Ready.Gov [ [link removed] ] website offers resources on how to translate ideas into actions, including tips for building an emergency supply kit [ [link removed] ] and steps for creating a family emergency plan [ [link removed] ].

We’ve again teamed up this year with The Daily Herald in Everett and other partners to assemble a disaster preparedness guide filled with information, tips and ideas to help residents stay safe in Snohomish County. A digital version of the guide [ [link removed] ] is available on our website.

Snohomish County is updating its Hazard Mitigation Plan [ [link removed] ] and needs your help. If you haven’t already, please find a few minutes before Sept. 30, 2025 to complete a brief online survey: *[link removed] [ [link removed] ]*

Making preparedness a priority

Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers

Building resilience in the community is a high priority, and Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers marked National Preparedness Month with a proclamation urging people to take action now to be ready for future emergencies.
