SENATE UPDATE: Redoubling Our Work in the Wake of TragedyThe truth lost a heroic spokesman last week. It’s up to us to make sure it gains thousands more.RIP Charlie KirkLast week, the conservative voice of his generation — 31-year-old Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk — was assassinated by a left-wing extremist in Utah. Charlie was an old friend and loyal ally. We grieve his loss and lift his young family in our prayers. The corporate media — shamefully complicit in the violent rhetoric over the last decade — is trying to change the subject. But Americans know the truth. Charlie’s murder was an attack by a political movement, not simply against one man or their political opponents. It was an attack against America itself — our democracy, our Constitution, our values, and our way of life. Charlie Kirk spoke the truth about America and about Jesus Christ — and was killed for it. In the wake of this atrocity, conservatives must redouble our commitment to our country and our cause. The truth lost a heroic spokesman last week. It’s up to us to make sure it gains thousands more and that last week becomes a turning point for all of us. Last WeekLast Thursday, Republicans enacted The Laziness Option. After months of refusing to work five days a week to confirm President Trump’s nominees, they changed Senate rules to start confirming nominations in groups rather than one at a time. This will allow them to clear the nominations backlog that their laziness created in the first place. It also means that Republicans will have no power to stop the most radical and corrupt nominees of the next liberal president. The Senate last week also confirmed three federal judges and one Department of Homeland Security Under Secretary. Conservative SpotlightMIKE LEE — Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) has introduced a formal resolution condemning Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Here’s hoping Democrats are more receptive to it than they were in the U.S. House of Representatives shortly after the shooting. House liberals, classy as always, booed and shouted down calls for prayers while Kirk was fighting for his life on Wednesday afternoon. DARK MONEY INVESTIGATION — Here’s hoping, too, that the Senate joins House conservatives’ call for Congress to investigate the dark web of left-wing money funding violent extremism across the country. Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) wrote to Speaker Mike Johnson demanding the House “follow the money to identify the perpetrators of the coordinated anti-American assaults being carried out against us and take all steps under the law necessary to stop them.” Amen. Make it happen. This WeekThe Senate has two votes already queued up for the week ahead, both set for this evening. The first vote will be to take up the first tranche of 48 nominations all at once under the Senate’s new rules. The second vote will advance President Trump’s nomination of conservative economist Stephen Miran to join the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve.
