Dear John,
Elon Musk called me a "craven coward" this morning, because I called out his deeply dangerous and irresponsible rhetoric calling for violence on our streets over the weekend - telling protestors to “fight back or die” and to overthrow the government. | | I have written to Keir Starmer, Kemi Badenoch and Nigel Farage, urging them to join me in condemning his actions. Britain must stand united against this clear attempt to undermine our democracy and incite violence. | | I was appalled by the violent scenes of police being attacked at the Tommy Robinson rally on Saturday. These thugs do not speak for Britain, and should face the full force of the law.
This is a dangerous moment for our country.
We cannot allow anyone, no matter how wealthy or powerful, to get away with using their platform to inflame tensions and incite violence. Elon Musk must be held to account.
Even if other party leaders will not do so, the Liberal Democrats will continue to stand up to him and his appalling attempts to divide our country.
John, I really worry about Elon Musk’s involvement with the far-right in this country. Nigel Farage is doing everything he can to cosy up to him, hoping to copy the Trump playbook and convince one of the world’s richest men to bankroll his party and campaign.
We need to counter the threat that that poses. We need to be the antidote.
Every leaflet we deliver, and every conversation we have with a voter, is critical to defeating the divisive politics of Farage and Musk.
So I am asking you to contribute today to support our campaigning up and down the country, to spread our liberal values and help us defeat the division that is gripping our country.
We cannot just wait for elections - we need to act now while there is still time. | | | |
