Ottawa County Veterans Services to Host Second Annual Veterans Stand Down & Resource Fair in Grand Haven

*West Olive, MI — *Ottawa County Veterans Services [ [link removed] ], in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and local community partners, will host its Second Annual Veterans Stand Down & Resource Fair [ [link removed] ] on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Central Park Place, 421 Columbus Ave., Grand Haven, Michigan [ [link removed] ].

The event will bring together local service providers, community partners, and veteran organizations to connect veterans and military families with valuable resources. Attendees will have access to more than 65 vendors offering VA claims assistance, free giveaways, education opportunities, employment resources, and much more.

"We are honored to partner in the community to bring resources closer to where Veterans live," said Michelle Martin, Battle Creek VA Executive Medical Center Director. “These community partners are providing essential resources and information for people who served in the military."

This year marks the first time the event will be held in Grand Haven, moving north from its original location to expand outreach and accessibility for veterans throughout Ottawa County.

“Our mission is to ensure every veteran in Ottawa County has access to the resources and support they’ve earned,” said Jason Schenkel, Director of Ottawa County Veterans Services. “By bringing the Stand Down to Grand Haven, we’re reaching more veterans, strengthening community connections, and creating a welcoming space where those who served can find the help they need.”

All Ottawa County veterans and military families are encouraged to attend this free event, which will feature numerous opportunities for connection, assistance, and support. Last year, more than 175 veterans were served, and organizers hope to reach even more this year.

“Ottawa County is deeply committed to honoring our veterans not just with words, but with action,” said Kendra Wenzel, Ottawa County Commissioner and Veterans Services Committee Member. “Serving our veterans is one of the County’s highest honors. The construction of our first-ever dedicated Veterans Services facility, along with events like the Veterans Job Fair and the upcoming Stand Down and Resource Fair, are important steps in our commitment to ensuring every veteran has access to the care, support, and opportunities they deserve.”

More than 25 volunteers are scheduled to help at the event, assisting with traffic flow, serving meals, and guiding veterans to the many resources available on-site.

The Veterans Stand Down & Resource Fair is free and open to the public. Veterans are encouraged to bring a copy of their DD-214 or current military ID card. Those needing assistance obtaining their DD-214 can contact Ottawa County Veterans Services for help.
