Fellow Democrats!
We hope you have had a fun summer, that was filled with outdoor activities, and any other fun non work related activities.
A quick note from our Chair, Annette Osnos:
"Clearly the Teton County Democrats condemm the use of violence in any form and context to address any perceived grievances or as an attempt to nullify political discourse in the country. This is not a new kind of event in our country. When it happens it is incumbent upon all of us to both morally reject and to redouble our efforts to peacefully negotiate our differences. We all need to recognize the reality of the emotions that are resulting in violence. We have to do everything we can to remove the feasibility of violence for these people. There are many things we can do too: lower the temp of political rhetoric, provide mental healthcare and reduce the availability of weaponry."

Some quick news:
Save the Date. No Kings Day #2. On October 18th, we will be hosting a No Kings Day on the Town Square, from 10 am to 12 pm. More info here ([link removed]) .
September Economic Blackout info:
Join us in following the economic Blackout during the month of September, more specifically Sept.19th, a full boycott of Amazon, Uber, and Pepsi specifically. More info here ([link removed]) .
Furthermore:
We are beginning our candidate recruitment drive. If you are interested in running for local or state office, please let us know.

On Friday September 5th, our Secretary attended the Great American Outdoors Act Congressional hearing in Grand Teton National Park. It was a very interesting event, well attended, and the questions from the congressional representatives were purposeful. If you have questions about this process, please let us know. No decision on the Act was made during the hearing.

Local government news:
On local issues, the Town Council recently denied the Sketch plan for the Dauntless hotel. While many of us may have various opinions on this type of project, it seems that this denial is ultimately a win for our community, as we often feel caught up in excessive amounts of traffic, difficult to navigate rush hour, and the difficulty of eating at your favorite downtown restaurant due to overcrowding of our downtown core area. Read more here ([link removed]) .

The START Board and START Bus are working on a new transportation demand management plan. As this is a public process, and START is a public entity, funded majorly by our tax dollars (and a percentage of the lodging tax) we would appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to fill out the survey to help us create a better bus system, to serve all of Jackson, Teton County, as well as the commuter areas of Victor, Driggs, and Alpine/Afton. Public Transit is for all of us.
Take the survey here ([link removed]) .

Immigration info:
ICE has been active in our community this summer, scaring community members. This is a terrible situation, especially as we view ourselves as a welcoming community, not a hateful one. We have many of these red cards available, please get in touch if you or someone you know would like any.

As fall is nearly here, (some might say it is) hunting season is also upon us, along with the Elk rut, Bear feeding frenzy, Moose rut, and a whole lot of other Wildlife stuff. If you have pictures of any activities or wildlife you see this fall, and would like to share it either on our social media or in the next newsletter, please send them our way. We will credit you unless you say no.

On Wednesday, September 10th, the right-wing Republican commentator and Trump ally Charlie Kirk was shot dead. There may be a feeling that we are in a continuous spiral of gun violence, with school shootings, and other issues. We fully and categorically reject all calls for political violence. This was a terrible and tragic event, and does not achieve the goals of our democracy and free speech ideals. It seems that our political rhetoric is at an all time low. Here's the thing: it is up to us, as American citizens, as voting members of our society, to make a difference. We must elect those who represent the strongest Democratic and Wyoming values. The midterms are fast approaching. Keep paying attention and get involved if you'd like.
