National Hispanic Heritage Month

*Hispanic Heritage Month* honors the contributions, resilience, and determination of the Hispanic/Latino community. Despite the intimidation and attack to our communities, this month, as well as every day of the year, is a reminder of our strength and perseverance. This month is a moment to pause, reflect, take action, and be in community. 

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated each year from September 15 to October 15. It began as a week-long celebration in 1968 under President Johnson and was expanded to a month by President Reagan 20 years later in 1988. 

The timeframe of this month is significant because many Central American countries celebrate their independence days within these dates, beginning on September 15 with Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua; followed by independence day in Mexico on September 16, and Chile's independence day on September 18.

El *Mes de la Herencia Hispana* honra la contribución, la resiliencia y la determinación de toda la comunidad hispana/latina. Pese a que nuestras comunidades se sienten intimidadas y atacadas, este mes, al igual que todos los días del año, nos recuerda nuestra fuerza y ​​perseverancia. Este mes es un momento para hacer una pausa, reflexionar, actuar y apoyarse en comunidad.

El Mes de la Herencia Hispana se celebra cada año del 15 de septiembre al 15 de octubre. Comenzó como una celebración de una semana en 1968, bajo la presidencia de Johnson, y se extendió a un mes con la presidencia de Reagan 20 años después, en 1988.

Our Team Continues to Inform the Community in a Variety of Cultural Events

State Fair

In preparation for the next legislative session that starts on February 17, 2026, our team at MCLA has been attending and sharing resources in various events this past month. Lately, we were at the Minnesota State Fair and at CLUES's Fiesta Latina. We discussed about different topics and issues with dozens of community members. Many of you have also responded to our community survey that will guide our work in the upcoming months. Keep sharing with others in our communities!

With this in mind, we are excited to continue our community engagement in the next weeks and learn more about  how MCLA can support our communities with other peer organizations.

En preparación para la próxima sesión legislativa, que comienza el 17 de febrero de 2026, nuestro equipo en MCLA ha estado asistiendo y compartiendo recursos en diversos eventos durante el último mes. Recientemente, estuvimos en la Feria Estatal de Minnesota y en la Fiesta Latina de CLUES. Conversamos sobre diferentes temas y problemáticas con decenas de miembros de la comunidad. Muchos de ustedes también han respondido a nuestra encuesta comunitaria, que guiará nuestro trabajo en los próximos meses. ¡Sigan compartiendo con otros en nuestras comunidades!

Con esto en mente, nos entusiasma continuar nuestra participación comunitaria en las próximas semanas y aprender más sobre cómo MCLA puede apoyar a nuestras comunidades junto con otras organizaciones similares.
