Email from Rep. Salazar As always it is an honor representing you and your family in Washington, D.C. FL-27 Newsletter Vol. 119, Issue #15 Dear Friends/Amigos, This week was full of action as my team and I fought for the values that matter most to our community. Every step I take here is guided by the voices and stories I hear back home. Whether it’s on the House floor or in critical policy meetings, I’m making sure the priorities of District 27 are front and center. Salazar U.S. Representative (FL-27) Standing Up for Cuban Freedom: Demanding Action Against South Florida Companies Undermining U.S. Sanctions WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, at the House Financial Services Committee, I asked Andrea Gacki, Director of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, to investigate companies in South Florida allegedly violating the Cuban embargo and funneling American dollars into the dictatorship’s machinery of oppression. This follows a letter I sent urging the Trump administration to punish any company aiding the regime, especially those using “tourism packages,” “logistics,” door-to-door shipping, and vehicle sales to circumvent sanctions. Every dollar that slips through sanctions doesn’t just pad the regime’s pockets, it fuels Havana’s oppression and robs the Cuban people of their freedom. Representing hundreds of thousands of Cuban exiles, I will not stand by while U.S. policy is undermined. Companies that help the dictatorship must be held accountable. You can watch House Financial Services Committee hearing here. You can read the full letter here. Speaking Out: End Political Violence, Crush the Cartels This morning, I joined Glenna Milberg on This Week in South Florida to send a clear message: condemning political violence in all its forms, following the tragic murder of Charlie Kirk. I also spoke about President Trump's latest efforts to dismantle the drug cartels in Latin America, most notably el Cartel de los Soles, led by Nicolas Maduro, along with other critical issues impacting our community and hemisphere. Voting on Legislation that Impacts You This Week in Congress: Fighting for Florida’s 27th Congressional District This week, I voted YES on three important bills that will make our community safer, stronger, and better prepared for the future: H.R. 3425 – Personnel Oversight and Shift Tracking Act This bipartisan bill improves the oversight and training of security personnel who protect federal buildings, including facilities here in South Florida. By ensuring stronger standards, better tracking systems, and corrective training, this legislation keeps federal workplaces safe for employees and the public. H.R. 3944 – Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, and Legislative Branch Appropriations Act, 2026 I proudly supported this bill to provide funding for our service members, veterans, and their families. It strengthens military housing, improves veterans’ health care, and ensures the VA has the resources it needs. With so many veterans living in Miami, this bill directly supports the men and women who sacrificed for our country.
