Dear John,
America’s roadless forests are priceless. They are natural carbon vaults, absorbing and storing vast amounts of carbon to protect our climate. They provide clean drinking water for millions, shelter grizzlies, wolves, and countless endangered species, and sustain biodiversity on a scale unmatched anywhere else. Free of roads, immune to industrial looting, they remain among our strongest defenses against the climate crisis.
Yet corporations are willing to sacrifice these irreplaceable ecosystems for short-term profit. By pushing to repeal the decades-old safeguard of the Roadless Rule, they want to bulldoze and carve roads into more than 45 million acres of wilderness -- opening the door to destructive logging, mining, and drilling.
This attack on our wilderness isn’t about serving the public. It’s about forcing taxpayers to subsidize road-building for corporate gain, even at the cost of our climate, our wildlife, and our future.
Public comments on the repeal of the Roadless Rule are open until midnight on Sept. 19. Please send your comments to tell the administration to protect the last of America’s great roadless forests.
Road-building brings contamination of ground, air, and water resources and fragmentation of habitats. U.S. roads kill 365 million reptiles and mammals every year. Expanding roads into untouched forests would only multiply that devastation. It would also threaten the outdoor recreation economy -- from hikers and hunters to paddlers and climbers -- that depends on healthy, intact wilderness.
America’s last great roadless forests are not expendable -- they are essential to life. Protecting them means protecting clean water, safeguarding biodiversity, and keeping faith with future generations. Corporate greed may be driving this reckless push, but together, we can stop it.
Please submit your comments today, to keep our forests strong, wild, and free from corporate destruction.
Thank you for standing up for our roadless forests and defending the priceless treasures we all share.
