US House Committee Votes to Cut $4.7B for Low-Income Schools
|
This was a difficult week in America, with yet another high school shooting in Colorado and a political assassination on a Utah college campus. Our schools should be beacons of safety, but increasingly our students are facing tragic violence. We join leaders and organizations across America in a desperate plea for politicians to work together to find solutions — including implementing sensible gun reforms and putting a stop to far-right, violent propaganda meant to incite violence — NOW before the next tragedy hits.

Ranking Member Rep. De Lauro (D-CT) said the education spending cuts are an “assault on education,” pointing out that the proposed education cuts could remove 72,000 teachers from low-income classrooms, and grants supporting English learners and professional development are entirely eliminated.
📅 What’s Next? The federal budget deadline is Oct. 1, but Congress can pass stopgap measures while they continue to debate these cuts. The House must align its budget with the Senate’s version, which did not enact Trump’s proposed cuts and instead provided a slight increase to current K-12 spending.
🚨There’s Time to Stop These Cuts! The House and the Trump administration's proposed $12 billion in cuts to public education would be a devastating blow to America’s students. We must all speak up and demand that Congress reject these cuts and protect our children’s futures. Find out how much YOUR school district stands to lose!

Arizona has some critical school elections right around the corner — and we need you to get involved to spread the word to vote YES! 35 different school districts are going out for special bond, override, and budget increase measures to ensure local funding for schools so that students and educators can have the resources they need to be successful and safe.
In many areas, these special elections are “mail only,” meaning your ballot will come in the mail, and you should return your ballot by Oct. 28th to make sure it counts! |
What are bonds & overrides? Bonds and overrides are voter-approved initiatives that generate additional tax revenue to fund projects and operations for local school districts and community colleges. Bonds and overrides are tools that our local communities can use to provide funds for their local schools above and beyond what the state provides. Read about these measures and why they are so crucial to Arizona students HERE. Because Arizona’s local public schools are so dramatically underfunded, districts often have to ask voters to pass additional funding initiatives to fund the basics for students – like teacher salaries, bus drivers, computers, basic building maintenance, and more.

We encourage you to Vote YES on all school funding measures! Arizona students and educators are counting on you. |
