Community and Conversation with Congressman James Walkinshaw

I would be honored to have you with us for a night of great conversation with newly elected Congressman James Walkinshaw as a special guest. September Meeting of the Speaker’s Emergency Committee on the Impacts of Federal Workforce and Funding Reductions
Throughout the legislative interim, this bipartisan committee has worked diligently to assess how recent reductions in the federal workforce and federal funding will affect Virginia in the years ahead. In September, the committee convened in Richmond to present its findings and discuss how state lawmakers can protect Virginians and our economy from the repercussions.
Nearly one-quarter of the Commonwealth’s economy depends on federal dollars, and these cuts are already resulting in job losses, higher costs, and diminished resources for essential services such as public education and healthcare. Beyond workforce reductions, program funding cuts under the administration’s budget are drying up critical resources and forcing the cancellation of improvement projects across Virginia. The loss of federal jobs is also eroding local tax bases, leaving local governments to make difficult choices about which services to fund.
Among the anticipated costs to Virginians are $360 million over 2027–28 to maintain SNAP food assistance, a $2.1 billion reduction in hospital funding, and a doubling of healthcare premium costs for low-income families.
Overall, these federal cuts pose a serious threat to Virginia’s economy and the well-being of our communities. As federal support recedes, state and local governments will be left to shoulder significant new costs. Our mission moving forward is to protect these critical programs and ensure Virginia is prepared to withstand and mitigate the impacts that are already beginning to take hold.
As these are not one-time costs—they are ongoing obligations to fund schools, healthcare, and public safety – short-term funding is not a sustainable answer. The Commonwealth has been left with tough choices to keep Virginia’s budget balanced. My office will continue to provide updated information as it becomes available.
Notice on COVID-19 2025-36 Vaccines
Our office has received several inquiries about the process for obtaining the newly released COVID-19 booster, and we want to provide clarity on the current requirements. In Virginia, pharmacies can administer vaccines and other medications in two ways: (1) through a direct prescription from a licensed medical provider, or (2) under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”) immunization schedule, which allows certain vaccines to be provided without a prescription. Currently, the CDC’s immunization schedule includes the 2024–25 COVID-19 vaccine formulation but does not yet include the 2025–26 formulation. As a result, a prescription is currently required to receive the newest booster shot.
The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices is scheduled to meet on September 18–19 to consider updates. For more information about the current status of the 2025–26 COVID-19 vaccine, please click here:

How My Office Can Help
Navigating state agencies can be confusing and difficult at times. As the delegate for House District 27, I can help you communicate with state agencies such as the Virginia Employment Commission, Departments of Taxation, Social Services, Transportation, and more! I can also submit inquiries with those agencies on your behalf. There are limits to what I can do, however. For example, I am unable to expedite cases or force state agencies to favor your inquiry, provide legal advice or recommend a specific attorney, intervene with judicial issues, overturn decisions, or be involved with matters between private businesses.
Whether you require my office’s assistance, want to bring an issue to my attention, or invite me to a community event, please reach out here: [link removed] [[link removed]]
Alongside constituent services, I can submit drafts for commending and memorial resolutions. If you know of a person or organization in the district that deserves special recognition, please submit a request here: resolution request form. [[link removed]]
If you are happy with the work I am doing, please consider donating to my campaign for re-election using the button below.
