Getting around the country, it=E2=80=99s clear there=E2=80=99s a two-speed =
recovery underway in the New Zealand economy. =C2=A0

Down in Christchurch, where I was recently, there=E2=80=99s a real sense of=
optimism thanks to strong dairy prices and resurgent tourism. Businesses a=
re humming, retail sales are growing, and construction activity remains str=
ong.=C2=A0
=C2=A0
Meanwhile, in Auckland and Wellington, it=E2=80=99s a bit harder, as lower =
interest rates take their time to ripple their way through the local econom=
y.
=C2=A0
However, I=E2=80=99m confident that in the months ahead, the combined effec=
t of rising exports, lower interest rates, regulatory relief, and infrastru=
cture investment will support economic growth and job creation.=C2=A0
=C2=A0
But I acknowledge Kiwis are impatient =E2=80=93 and I=E2=80=99m impatient, =
too. So, where the Government can do a bit more now to support New Zealand=
=E2=80=99s recovery, we will.
=C2=A0
That=E2=80=99s why today we=E2=80=99ve announced a major events and tourism=
boost that will inject life back into our cities and regions.
=C2=A0
It includes funding for world-class concerts, sports events, and festivals =
that will attract international and domestic tourists. =C2=A0
=C2=A0
These events will help inject much-needed vibrancy back into our cities, he=
lping to create job and lift incomes.=C2=A0
