Hi John

The GREEN AMENDMENT ~ Constitutional Change for a Liveable Planet - Pure Water, Clean Air, Healthy Environment

Hello All!

Three days away from the start of the Constitutional Change for a Livable Future: The Green Amendment Tour. HERE is a link to the tour website and the links to RSVP to any of the six events.

We look forward to spreading the word about the essential need to secure our inalienable right to clean air, water, and a healthy environment. For the sake of a livable planet, for our future generations, and those communities that are future sacrifice zones to the rising need for energy, this work is essential!

We have merch for sale, three interviews with radio stations scheduled, and a car ready to roll. We look forward to sharing what we have gained in knowledge from the experience with everyone connected to the movement.

We hope the tour has piqued your interest and excitement in the Green Amendment, as it has ours, and the tremendous benefits it can provide in securing a healthy and environmentally sound future. While the EPA and its structures, which include the data collection of health disparities, are eroded, we resist the current trend by securing our inalienable right to clean air, water, and a healthy environment as part of our Washington State Constitution.

Thank you to all who have donated time and money to make this tour doable!!!!!!!!!

If you haven't already donated, please consider doing so; no amount is too small or too big:))

Thank you so much,

David and the WA State GA Team

At a time when so many are made to feel invisible or unsafe, coming together to celebrate Welcoming Week sends a clear message: we all matter, we're appreciated, and we're welcome here.

Bill McKibben at Seattle Town Hall 9-16 ~

Free Digital Tickets for TAWA Members for Bill McKibben's Seattle Event!
Here Comes the Sun, with Third Act Founder Bill McKibben
September 16, 7:30 pm
A program of Seattle Arts and Lectures
Town Hall Seattle or Online

Bill McKibben’s new book “Here Comes The Sun” is a must-read for anyone who is feeling that the recent actions of the US Government are going to slow down the transition to renewable energy that the planet needs to remain hospitable for our species. Worldwide, thanks to improved design and hard-to-imagine cost reductions from mass production, almost all of the investment in new energy is in solar and wind because it costs less than the alternatives.

Third Act Washington is a sponsor of the Seattle Here Comes the Sun book event with Bill McKibben on September 16, and we hope to see as many of our members there as possible! In the run-up to Sun Day, Bill will help us celebrate the power of the sun to rewrite our scientific, economic, and political future. We'll have a table in the lobby, so come by and say hello!

Sun Day Events ~

Sun Day is a national celebration of solar and wind power on September 21, 2025 (the fall equinox). Solar energy is now the cheapest source of power on the planet, and Sun Day is our chance to do something about the climate crisis by spreading a positive message about solar power.

Events and actions are happening all across Washington State, so take a minute to peruse the growing list here, and check out a few we've highlighted below. Interested in organizing a Sun Day event in your region, large or small? Reach out to [email protected].

And don't forget to visit the Sun Day website to create your own sun drawing and explore the inspirational global gallery of sun drawings, from which the beautiful image above was inspired.

A few words about solar from Bill McKibben:

“For one thing, it works – for a really, really long time. My oldest solar panels have been up on the roof for a quarter century and they are still going strong; the oldest solar array in France was just tested and 30 years later it was still at 80% of its original output. And you can now easily connect solar panels to batteries – some even come from that Nazi-adjacent billionaire Elon Musk (though there are also plenty of competitors now, in case you want non-fascist electron storage). Once you have got a battery in the basement, the afternoon’s sunshine can last all day. Indeed, if you have thought ahead and bought, say, a Ford F-150 Lightning, the electric version of America’s most popular vehicle, you have battery enough to keep your house running for days and days.

But best of all there is no complicated system to plug into. It’s just you and the sun, and the sun is currently predicted to go on burning for 5bn years (after which, admittedly, you’re on your own).”

Solar, wind, and batteries are now the cheapest and cleanest way to power our world. But politicians are getting in the way.

The oil and gas industry has allies in the federal government working to stop the clean energy revolution. And at the local level, excessive regulations, slow-moving utilities, and outdated permitting processes are stopping our communities from embracing solar and wind power.

But mayors and local leaders have the power to speed up their community’s transition to clean energy. Instead of waiting weeks or months to build solar on your roof, they could make it take days, lowering bills and cleaning up our air.

Families and businesses in communities across the country want to embrace clean energy. Transitioning to wind and solar power brings down costs, improves reliability, and reduces pollution.

Without reform, our communities will lose out on the benefits of clean energy power. Tell Mayors, City Councils, County Commissioners, and Local Executives to implement policies that remove barriers to clean energy access now!

America has built record amounts of solar and wind power in the past few years. We can’t allow all the progress we’ve made—more affordable energy, hundreds of thousands of jobs, strengthened economic competitiveness—to be halted.

That’s why we’re calling on local leaders to:

  • Automate solar permitting with tools like SolarApp that can reduce wait times to 48 hours or less.
  • Prohibit local fees and restrictions that punish people for using solar.
  • Fast-track community solar projects that protect our air and deliver affordable energy.

It’s time to break through the regulations and red tape making it harder for families to take control of their energy bills! Let’s build clean energy and save money, reduce pollution, and address climate change risks in communities across the country.

Tell local leaders: unlock clean energy opportunities for all residents in your community. Build clean energy now!

Thank you for making the transition to clean energy a reality,

Sun Day

P.S. On September 21, people across the country are coming together to rally for solar power on the first ever Sun Day. We need our local leaders to join us in the fight to unshackle solar power and create a brighter future. Join us on September 21st to celebrate all the things that the power of the sun makes possible! Click here to find a Sun Day event near you.

THIRD Act ~

We need your help in reaching out to your state senator, who is a member of the Senate Ways and Means Committee. The Third Act is laying the groundwork for progress on the Washington Coal Act, SB 5439.

No matter where on earth coal is burned, it makes climate change worse here in Washington State and in the rest of the world. Our state pension fund is still investing in coal, causing suffering in countries that lack pollution regulation and healthcare. The Washington Coal Act, SB 5439, requires the Washington State Investment Board to stop investing in coal.

We are reaching out to senators now to educate them on the Coal Act, so that we can secure a hearing on the bill and then PASS it.

Please let us know if you are willing to meet online with your senator and other Third Act and coalition members in your area.

Please respond with a quick “YES” to this letter, and we will request a meeting in the coming weeks.

In solidarity,

Barb Carey
