Monthly Updates

Hey!

People over partisan politics. It feels more important than ever now, doesn’t it? With the mercury rising and election cycle heating up, the New Politics team is blazing right through the summer. This month we supported some huge primary victories, launched a fundraising campaign for our Black candidates, and endorsed three more servant leaders.

Primary election results

Winning a primary election is one of the first major hurdles candidates face to serving in office. Three servant leaders we’ve endorsed cleared that hurdle this month as first-time candidates: Josh Hicks won a decisive victory in his run in KY-06. Jackie Gordon had a landslide victory in her primary in NY-02, getting over 70% of the vote. Deb Ciamacca won her primary for PA’s 168th State House District by a 20% margin. Congrats Josh, Jackie, and Deb!

Elijah Reichlin-Melnick, a Teach for America alum and candidate for state senate in New York, needs our help. His race is a dead heat and thousands of absentee ballots remain to be counted, but his opponent just asked a judge to order a restraining order and/or stay to halt the vote count.

We’ve been reflecting on how we can best rise up to the current moment as our nation confronts racial injustice. That’s why we’ve launched a fundraising campaign for six Black leaders who have served our country before and are now serving again through politics.

New Endorsements

When we endorse a candidate, we're making a statement about their quality as a leader and the type of campaign they're running. Here are the new endorsements we announced this month.

Candidate Spotlight on Kim Olson

Candidate Spotlight

Kim Olson is a retired Air Force Colonel who was one of the first women ever to command a combat squadron. After finishing first in her March primary for Texas' 24th congressional district, she faces a runoff election on July 14th. Kim knows all about tough battles — from taking on bad political strategy in Iraq to leading the charge to modernize outdated policies in the Air Force — and now she’s on a mission to fix Congress!

The best leaders don’t just dictate orders — they listen and learn.

@VoteMeijer knows that conversations like these aren’t always easy, but they are necessary for us all to grow and move forward.
