Updates from D.C.
Condemning Political Violence
Like many of you, I am disgusted by the acts of political violence that we are seeing across the country. We don’t have to agree on everything, but we should all agree on this: political violence is wrong and has no place in our democracy.

We Will Never Forget
It has been 24 years since nearly 3,000 people lost their lives on 9/11. We hold their memory close and honor the first responders who gave everything that day. We will never forget. |

January 6 Subcommittee
This week, Leader Jeffries appointed me to serve on the January 6 subcommittee. On January 6, 2021, our democracy was attacked. A violent mob, fueled by Donald Trump’s lies, stormed the Capitol to overturn a free and fair election. Police officers were beaten, windows were smashed, and lives were lost. To this day, extreme MAGA Republicans are working to whitewash what happened and excuse the inexcusable.
I am honored to join Congressman Eric Swalwell and Congressman Jared Moskowitz on this subcommittee. Together, we will ensure the American people never forget who was responsible for January 6—and that those responsible are held accountable.
This is not about Democrats versus Republicans. This is about defending the Constitution we all swore an oath to uphold. The American people deserve honesty, accountability, and leaders who will protect democracy—not tear it down. I am committed to making sure that the American people know the truth about January 6 and remember all those responsible for the defilement of the Capitol.

Republicans Love to Cherry-Pick
This week, I reminded Republicans that they will blame immigrants for everything, but stay silent on white supremacists, Jan 6th rioters, and school shootings. If they really cared as much as they claim they do, they'd call out all threats to our communities—not just the ones that fit their agendas.

They shout “America first,” but are always putting Americans last.
Children are going hungry. Measles deaths are up for the first time in 20 years. That’s the reality under Trump’s failed leadership, with House and Senate Republicans cheering him on.
In this week's Subcommittee on Health Care and Financial Services' hearing, I exposed how this administration’s reckless tariffs, cuts to SNAP and Medicaid, and attacks on vaccines are unleashing the biggest assault on public health in American history.

Calling Out Their Racist Maps
These maps are racist, period. Texas has more Black people than any state in this country, but these maps would leave us with just 2 seats where we can choose our own representation. My Congressional Black Caucus colleagues and I won’t stand by while they try to silence Black voters.

Trump Can’t Lie His Way Out of the Epstein Files
This week, I joined CNN to lay out how Trump’s story keeps changing: first “we weren’t close,” then “I didn’t know him,” then “he was an informant,” and now “the birthday book never existed.” But the receipts tell the truth.
