Rest in Peace, Charlie Kirk

Charlie was a dear friend for many years, and I am heartbroken and in disbelief over his murder. Please keep his wife, their two young children, and all of his loved ones in your prayers. This photo of Charlie in Texas a few years ago is a reminder of his energy, passion, and friendship.
On Wednesday night, we witnessed one of the most hateful and shameful moments in the history of Congress. After a Republican member requested a prayer and moment of silence for Charlie Kirk, Democrats shouted the motion down. Who are these ugly, nasty people in the Democrat Party in Congress who lack the basic decency to honor an American citizen who was assassinated for his political beliefs? Only those with hatred in their hearts could do such an evil thing.
This outright hate against conservatives in this country—amplified by many in the political opposition and in the mainstream media—must stop now.
A Powerful Second Hearing of the Religious Liberty Commission in Washington, D.C.

I’m proud to serve as Chair of the Presidential Commission on Religious Liberty. On Monday, we held a powerful six-hour hearing in Washington, D.C., at the Museum of the Bible. After President Trump addressed the commission, we heard from numerous K-12 and college students who shared how their schools had denied their right to religious freedom.
One of those students was Shay, a boy from California who, as a fifth grader, was forced to read a book about gender transitioning to a kindergartner. Not only was this inappropriate for his age, it violated Shay’s deeply held religious beliefs. Shay and his parents had the courage to fight back and win in court, but they were ultimately driven out of their school for standing up to the radical left’s agenda.
While Shay and his mother were testifying, I received a message about a radical professor at Texas A&M University forcing their personal agenda on students. What happened at TAMU and to Shay is happening in schools across America, from elementary classrooms to college campuses.
In Texas, the Senate and I have led the way in banning divisive DEI programs in K-12 and higher education. We stripped radical faculty senates of power, which they had been using to push their woke agendas. This indoctrination of America’s students must end.

We also heard from Jennifer, a mother from Michigan, whose daughter’s school secretly transitioned her child behind her and her husband’s back, violating their parental rights and their daughter’s religious liberty.

The commission and I will deliver a full report to President Trump to ensure this extreme behavior is eradicated from our schools and that every student’s religious liberty is protected.
We have six more hearings ahead before delivering our final report to President Trump on how to fully restore religious freedom in America to its rightful place after four years of Biden’s attacks on people of faith.

We Will Never Forget “Heaven’s 27”

Last Friday, Senate Bill 1 and House Bill 1, the camp safety bills [[link removed]] that were written with the families of “Heaven’s 27,” the young girls who lost their lives at Camp Mystic during the July 4th flooding, were signed into law.
At the bill signing ceremony, I recommended that we place a portrait of the two courageous camp counselors, Chloe and Katherine, who gave their lives to try to save their campers, in the House and Senate chambers.
I am grateful to my Senate colleagues for their overwhelming support of this critical legislation. I also want to recognize and thank the families who turned their grief into action, joining us in the fight to make sure that the lessons learned from Camp Mystic lead to lasting change. Their courage and strength honor the memory of the children we lost. From the beginning, we listened closely to the families of the victims. They gave us a list of priorities that mattered most to them, and SB 1 honors their voices by including every single one.
The passage of the Heaven’s 27 Camp Safety Act ensures that the tragedy at Camp Mystic will never be forgotten — and that from this heartbreak, Texas has built something stronger to protect generations of children to come.
We will never forget “Heaven’s 27.”
