Reading Children's Cabinet
On Wednesday, Governor Tim Walz convened his cabinet at Pine Bend Elementary School in Inver Grove Heights to spotlight his goal to make Minnesota the best state for children and families.
*“Allowing all children the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive is not the responsibility of a single state agency, department, or policy – it should be the guiding principle of all the work that we do,” *said Governor Walz.* “From expanding voluntary pre-K, to providing nutritious meals, to ensuring every child can read at or above grade level, we are focused on ensuring our children can succeed. These policies and improvements in our schools reflect our commitment to our children, their families, and the future of our state.”*

________________________________________________________________________
On Monday, Governor Tim Walz issued an executive order [ [link removed] ] directing the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) to expand its efforts to safeguard vaccine access in Minnesota in response to federal actions restricting vaccine availability at the federal level. The executive order also directs the state epidemiologist to issue a standing order for the COVID-19 vaccine, which would provide greater flexibility for health care providers and pharmacists to provide the vaccine.
*“Vaccines are one of the greatest public health achievements in modern medicine,”* said Governor Walz. *“While the Trump Administration attempts to limit Americans’ access to preventative care, Minnesota will be guided by science and medical expertise, prioritizing the health and safety of our people.”*

*“On September 11, thousands of innocent lives were lost in an unthinkable tragedy that profoundly changed our nation,”* said Governor Walz. *“On this day of remembrance, we mourn the lives lost, honor the heroism of our first responders, and reflect on the resilience of the American people.”*

Governor Walz Urges Secretary Noem to Restore Public Safety Funding
________________________________________________________________________
On Tuesday, Governor Tim Walz sent a letter to U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem urging her to restore the Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention grant, which was abruptly cancelled in July.
*“As Minnesota grieves the lives lost and upended by the violence that struck Annunciation Church on **August 27**, we must commit to taking every possible step to prevent and catch violent individuals before they are able to carry out such destruction,” *said Governor Walz.* “The solutions will be comprehensive and must include serious action on gun violence. But the termination of this funding cut in half the very team that would have investigated this violent individual and has already disrupted Minnesota’s prevention work. I strongly urge Secretary Noem to reconsider the decision to cancel this funding.”*
